Al Maktoum International Airport
The project calls for the expansion of the existing Al Maktoum Airport at the Dubai South. The expansion will see the current size of 66,107 square meters to 145,926 square meters. This will increase the capacity of the airport to handle passengers to 26.5 million a year in 2017.
The scope includes a new immigration hall with 55 control counters within the arrivals building, a new baggage handling system. The departure building, the public hall, commercial areas and offices will all be expanded as well as the check-in hall. It will have 100 check-in counters – 90 for economy passengers and 10 for business class, 7 economy and four business class self-service check-ins, 26 passport control checkpoints (including six e-gate counters) and 24 boarding lounges. The arrivals will have a new immigration hall with 55 control counters, visa and passenger utilities.
Al Maktoum International is capable of handling more than 5 million passengers a year and its capacity will gradually be expanded to 220 million a year by the middle of the next decade.
